Most music lovers revere the great composers and consider them to be a relatively refined, genteel bunch. Well, perhaps they were – most of the time.

But the soaring music often masked temperamental, difficult, moody characters. Many of whom weren’t averse to less-than-flattering comments about their rivals and their music.
